Our paper aims at scrutinizing and evaluating the impacts of COVID-19 pandemic on international and domestic tourism in the Czech Republic. Our methodology includes the analysis of empirical and statistical data provided by the statistical agencies that stems from the systematic and holistic literature review. The empirical research includes analysis and comparison of time series of economic indicators. The paper evaluates two groups of statistical indicators. The first group consists of domestic and inbound tourism in the Czech Republic. The second area of research is the analysis of the hotel sector in the Prague region. The analysis of the hotel industry focuses on the development of the following internationally used economic indicators: average daily rate, occupancy, and revenue per available room. Our results reveal that there were significant effects of the coronavirus pandemic both on the inbound and the domestic tourism which brought about a plethora of social and economic implications such as the decrease in the average occupancy of hotel rooms or the revenues for the tourism and hospitality sector. As a result of the pandemic, the tourism structure in the Czech Republic has changed significantly with the institutions of tourism undegoing serious transformational and structural changes that might take lots of time to revert and to mitigate by the relevant tourism authorities, stakeholders, and policymakers.

The collapse of tourism caused by the COVID-19 pandemic is forcing many destinations to rethink their economic model, by focusing on sustainability and innovation. Advances in tourism impact assessment can not only improve tourism products and services, but also guide the sector towards responsible choices for the post-COVID era. The paper proposes a new way to assess tourism products using the Life Cycle Assessment—LCA methodology. Thanks to this method the authors quantify the environmental impacts of tourism choices and propose alternative green solutions. Innovation is therefore aimed at promoting a new awareness to support sustainable tourism after the COVID-19 pandemic. Once the impacts have been quantified, local governments can make decisions in their plans to promote the most sustainable solutions. The application of the methodology to a typical case study for the Mediterranean area—Cinque Terre National Park in the Liguria Region (Italy)—further helps administrations to transfer and replicate the authors’ proposal. The proposed methodology is applied taking into account several priority issues for host territories such as the activities carried out by tourists, tourism mobility, and accommodation.

The COVID-19 crisis has caused significant losses in the tourism sector due to travel restrictions, and the uncertainty brought by the pandemic has brought hotel employees to the risk of losing their jobs. In this process, the fact that hotel businesses are closed for a while or downsizing may make it possible for employees to experience job insecurity. When the literature is examined, the limited number of studies examining the relationship between the perceived health risk of hotel employees and job insecurity has been decisive in the conduct of this study. In this context, the aim of this study is to reveal the relationship between the health risk perceived by the employees of five-star hotel businesses related to COVID-19 and job insecurity. Questionnaire technique, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the study. The study was carried out with employees of a five-star hotel in Istanbul. It has been found that the perceived health risk associated with COVID-19 has a positive and significant effect on job insecurity. At the same time, as a result of examining the significant effect of demographic characteristics on the relationship between health risk and job insecurity, it was determined that men, singles, people aged 25 and under and those working in the enterprise for less than 4 years and over 10 years contributed significantly to the model.
