“…The current literature comes to similar conclusions, where higher sexual selfesteem, more satisfaction with the body, and more well-being were found after cosmetic surgery. 49,50 Interestingly, the patients had high emotional stability even before blepharoplasty compared with the norm data, which improved significantly further after the operation. “…Considerable research has already been published on the impact of psychosocial factors 6 and the media 7 9 on individuals’ perceptions and acceptance of CS. Studies have also been published examining predictors, both of CS generally and of actually undergoing it oneself, in different populations—for example, married women 10 ; students 11 14 ; and plastic surgeons. 15 However, relatively few articles have compared different populations, which is important because the reasons for the decision to undergo cosmetic procedures and the expectations individuals have about them might vary.…”

“…More evidence of the usefulness of the scale can be seen in research looking at changes over time in scores on the SSEI. In one study on sexual self-esteem and cosmetic surgery in which women completed the SSEI before and after undergoing cosmetic surgery, their scores were higher post-surgery, suggesting that sexual self-esteem can change over time and that certain interventions can be efficacious at improving sexual self-esteem (Esmalian Khamseh & Nodargahfard, 2020). In another study looking at adolescent sexual self-esteem and sexual experiences over a 9 month period, researchers found that compared to their baseline scores, adolescents who had engaged in their first sexual experience during the study period had increased scores on the subscales of skills/experience and moral judgement after their first sexual experience (Swenson et al, 2012).…”
