The Effect of Coronavirus Anxiety on Student Motivation: The Case of Çukurova University

Abstract

Many precautions have been taken in many areas due to Covid-19, which was first seen in our country in March 2020. One of the measures is the transition to distance education in universities. Due to epidemic, many people have been worried. In this study, it is examined whether the coronavirus anxiety of university students had an effect on their motivation. So, a questionnaire including personal information form, coronavirus anxiety and motivation scale is applied to Çukurova University's students. 329 students in different departments voluntarily participated. Firstly, factor analysis is applied to the findings obtained from the motivation scale, and 21 variables are reduced to 5 factors. Then, t-test is used to examine whether demographic variables have an effect on motivation. Then, whether the coronavirus anxiety scale has an effect on motivation is examined by regression models and it is concluded that coronavirus anxiety has no effect on student motivation.
