The effect of composite structural parameters on tribo‐mechanical characteristics and thermal conductivity of self‐lubricant composites

Abstract: This article aims to look into the impact of structural parameters on the tribological, mechanical, and thermal functions of composites. These parameters include the reinforcement type, the winding angle and winding type. The tribological characteristics of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)/epoxy filament wound composites with various reinforcements including E-glass, Kevlar, and ultra-high-molecular weight polyethylene were examined under two different loads and the sliding velocity of 0.12 m/s. After the wear t… Show more

“…The abrasion performance is an important index of sole rubber materials, which determines the service life of shoes. In the field of footwear, DIN abrasion is the most commonly used index to evaluate the abrasion performance of rubber materials 35–37 . Herein, effect of SiC size, SiC content, and phenolic resin content on DIN abrasion of rubber compounds was also investigated.…”

“…This is because with the reduction of SiC particle size, the specific surface area of SiC increases, so the interface between SiC and rubber is larger, while the rubber content reduces and the SiC‐rubber interface increases with the increase of SiC content (as shown in Figure 3). The wear resistance of rubber compounds decreases with the increase of phenolic resin content because the tackifying phenolic resin used here is a kind of brittle and weak plastic 35–37 …”

“…PMCs are multi-phase materials in which an organic or inorganic component is embedded within the polymer matrix in order to achieve interesting features not demonstrated by either component alone. [1][2][3] The attributes of polymer composites are generally determined by the properties of constituents, the filler volume fraction and the dispersion of filler within the polymer matrix. Thus, the final properties of PMCs can be tailored by properly selecting the individual components, which usually have different physical and chemical properties.…”
