The Effect of Climate, Nitrogen and Micronutrients Application on Oiliness and Fatty Acid Composition of Sunflower Achenes

Abstract: Even though the sunflower is the second most widespread oil plant in the Czech Republic, there is a lack of information about the effects of climate, nitrogen and micronutrients application on sunflower oiliness and fatty acid composition of sunflower achenes. To obtain such information, we established five year experiment (2008–2012) to study the effect of climate, nitrogen (C-control, N 60–60 kg N ha−1, N 90–90 kg N ha−1, N 120–120 kg N ha−1) and of foliar application of boron (N 90 + B), zinc (N 90 + Zn) an… Show more

“…The identification of fatty acids in each sample of oil was performed using a modification of the alkaline transmethylation procedure developed by Hlisnikovský et al [ 35 ] (ISO 5508:1990): 50 µL of oil was dissolved in 500 µL of benzene and 500 µL of petroleum ether in a 10-mL volumetric flask. One mL of 0.4 M sodium hydroxide solution in MeOH was added and allowed to stand for 20 min.…”

“…The organic amendment was claimed not just acting as soil structure modification but also as nutrient sources for plant growth; besides N, P, K nutrient, Ca and Mg also supplied by organic fertilizer that was strongly associated with pH value. (Hlisnikovsky et al, 2015).…”
