The Effect of Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells Application on Distracted Bone Quality during Rapid Rate of Distraction Osteogenesis

Abstract: Distraction osteogenesis (DO) bone regenerate usually suffers from an inferior quality especially with rapid rate. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) application on different rates of distraction bone quality. Twenty-four goats were divided into group A with standard DO and group B with rapid distraction osteogenesis (RDO) both aided by MSCs. Group C with standard DO and group (D) with RDO were controls. Kruskal-Wallis test and Conover's post hoc analysis was us… Show more

“…28,29 Previous studies delivered MSCs to the distracted bone to enhance bone formation. 11,30 However, contradicting results about the positive effect of MSCs were seen. The effect of MSCs + PRP on new bone formation after DO has been investigated in several articles.…”

“…Thus, BMSCs are the most used stem cells for cell therapy and tissue repair 10 . BMSCs were used to enhance bone formation in distraction osteogenesis treatments 11 . In the case of RPE, Ekizer et al 12 were the first to study and analyse the effect of MSCs claiming their positive effect on sutural bone formation.…”

“…Critical bone defects are commonly applied in the ileum crest, being a non-weight-bearing bone with integrity to support larger defects [ 137 ]. Non-critical bone defects are those who can self-heal spontaneously, thus without compromising the bone intrinsic healing capacity, and can be applied in various bones, like the femur [ 138 , 139 ], tibia [ 140 , 141 ] and others, like the mandibular bone [ 142 , 143 ].…”
