The effect of air shear force moment on the performance of slider air bearings in hard disk drives

Abstract: The shear force moment was included in the design model of air bearings for hard disk drives, and the effect of the shear force moment was investigated with some numerical results. It was found that the shear force moment tends to increase the load capacity and reduce the pitch angle of the air bearing. It is concluded that the shear force moment must be incorporated into the design model of air bearings of hard disk drives.
