Abstract:Increased fluxes of neutral species in beams from an effusive source of alkali halide vapor observed when a beam of electrons is coaxial with the neutral beam are shown to be well accounted for by a model involving electron stimulated desorption of alkali atoms. The new model replaces an older one which attributed the increased flux to the electron beam acting as a weak trap for the neutrals thus serving to provide some controls of their motion.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
