This article examines the semiotic analysis of social criticism in Robert Zemeckis’s Forrest Gump Movie (1994) using Ferdinand De Saussure's semiotic theory. According to Saussure's theory, the sign consists of two interconnected elements: the signifier and the signified. Thus, the purpose of this study is to highlight the social criticism signs present in the Forrest Gump story and to highlight how crucial it is for literary works to reflect a real society through social criticism. The Forrest Gump film was chosen as the object of research because researchers are interested in exploring social criticism messages that are represented in the movie. In this context, the researchers believed that Forrest Gump movie which tell story about a man (Forrest) who has intelligence problems and becomes the object of ridicule in the social sphere and his life provided meaningful messages through the screenplay of the movie.

The current era has witnessed significant developments in the realms of digital and technology, which have impacted every aspect of our lives, including the art of filmmaking. Not only has technology empowered actors to portray characters, but it has also given rise to animated films to give a message. A prominent scholar, Roland Barthes, proposed that the concept of semiotics could be used as a tool to uncover hidden meanings in various forms of media. The objective of this paper is to examine the denotative elements in Sony Pictures Animation's Hair Love using Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. The purpose of this study is to discuss and explain the nonverbal signs or symbols that appear in the film. The denotative elements present in Hair Love are identified and analyzed using qualitative analysis in this study. The findings of this study reveal the presence of 23 denotative and connotative elements in the movie. Overall, this study contributes to the field of semiotics by analyzing the denotative elements in a contemporary animated film using Barthes' theory. This study's findings can provide useful insights into the use of nonverbal symbols in animated films and how they can be used to convey hidden meanings to the audience. A good movie is one that is able to convey useful messages in social life. The researcher assumes that Tokyo Revengers Live-Action is a movie that presents social values. In other words, this research has the objective of analyzing and describing the types of social values contained in this movie. In conducting this research, the researcher applied a qualitative descriptive research method. The research instrument is divided into two parts: researchers and documentation. The film scene and scripts from Tokyo Revengers are the object of this research. In the data collection process, the researcher implemented the documentary method. Meanwhile, in the process of data analysis, researchers used content analysis methods. The researcher found that, in the Tokyo Revengers live-action movie, there are three types of social values, including affection, responsibility, and life harmony.
