“…Para el Pleistoceno y Holoceno hay citas de iguánidos en Ecuador, Argentina, Brasil y Chile, entre los cuales se reconoce Liolaemus, Leiosaurus, Tropidurus, Polychrus y cf. “…Currently, members of Tupinambinae do not occur in North America and apparently are restricted to South America (Sullivan & Estes, 1997). Here, the fossil record is abundant for the Miocene-Holocene interval, where Tupinambis predominates, mainly in Argentina (Donadio, 1983, 1984a, Gasparini et al, 1986Brizuela & Albino, 2004) and Colombia (Estes, 1961(Estes, , 1983Sullivan & Estes, 1997). Donadio (1985) proposed the name Lumbrerasaurus scagliai for an Eocene tupinambinae from Argentina, on the basis of the cross section of the teeth and subtle differences in the morphology of the dorsal vertebrae, but this was considered a nomem dubium by Sullivan & Estes (1997).…”

“…The fossil‐bearing beds of the Sarmiento Formation at Gaiman in Chubut Province (Fig. 6, 1) have provided one of the most relevant associations of Miocene squamatans, including the extant pleurodont iguanians Pristidactylus and Liolaemus , the modern teiid Tupinambis , the extinct boids Waincophis and Gaimanophis , and indeterminate ‘colubrids’ (Albino, 1996b, c, 2008; Brizuela & Albino, 2004). The remains were found associated with mammals characteristic of the Colhuehuapian SALMA, the calibration of which was proposed by Madden (2004) to be between 20 and 18.5 Ma at the Gran Barranca site (early Miocene).…”
