The E2 admixtures in mixed forbidden lines of Bi I and Pb I

Abstract: The hyperfine structures (hfs) of mixed (M1+E2) multipole lines 461.5 nm (6p 3 2 P 1/2 → 6p 3 4 S 3/2 ) and 647.6 nm(6p 3 2 D 5/2 → 6p 3 4 S 3/2 ) of Bi I and 733.2 nm (6p 2 1 D 2 → 6p 2 3 P 1 ) of Pb I are presented. A computer modelling technique was used to obtain the predicted hfs contours of these lines. By varying the free parameters describing the line shape and the electric-quadrupole admixture D E2 the calculated profiles were fitted to the recorded spectra. The D E2 values obtained from the best fits… Show more

“…The results of both of these experiments differ by a factor of 2. The E2 admixtures have also been obtained directly from the observation of hyperfine structure of lines of isotope 207 [10,11]. In the case of Pb II, results of the hfs analysis of the trapped 207 Pb [10] and Zeeman effect [9] also differ by a factor of 2.…”
