The DIVING3D survey – Deep Integral Field Spectrograph View of Nuclei of Galaxies – I. Definition and sample presentation

Abstract: We present the Deep IFS View of Nuclei of Galaxies (DIVING3D) survey, a seeing-limited optical 3D spectroscopy study of the central regions of all 170 galaxies in the Southern hemisphere with B < 12.0 and |b| > 15○. Most of the observations were taken with the Integral Field Unit of the Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph, at the Gemini South telescope, but some are also being taken with the SOAR Integral Field Spectrograph. The DIVING3Dsurvey was designed for the study of nuclear emission line prop… Show more

“…NGC 6868 was observed on 2013 May 04 with the Gemini South Telescope using the Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph (GMOS) in the IFU mode (Allington-Smith et al 2002 ;Hook et al 2004 ). This object is part of the DIVING 3D surv e y, which made observations of the central regions of all 170 galaxies in the Southern hemisphere with B < 12.0 and | b | > 15 • (see Steiner et al 2022 for more details). The one slit set-up was used for the observations, resulting in an FoV of 5.0 × 3.5 arcsec 2 .…”

“…The DIVING 3D project is a survey designed to unveil the central regions of galaxies with IFU spectroscopy (Steiner et al, 2022). Inspired on the Palomar survey, the DIVING 3D has a statistically complete sample of galaxies, all objects with B < 12.0 mag, δ < 0 • and |b| > 15 • .…”

“…Additionally, aims to study the kinematics and properties of the stellar populations. Besides the complete sample, another strength of the survey is the high angular resolution, under seeing limited conditions, and high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) observations (Steiner et al, 2021;Steiner et al, 2022). The data used in the project consist of a optical and two NIR IFU data cubes.…”
