The diversity of core–halo structure in the fuzzy dark matter model

Abstract: In the fuzzy dark matter (FDM) model, gravitationally collapsed objects always consist of a solitonic core located within a virialised halo. Although various numerical simulations have confirmed that the collapsed structure can be described by a cored NFW-like density profile, there is still disagreement about the relation between the core mass and the halo mass. To fully understand this relation, we have assembled a large sample of cored haloes based on both idealised soliton mergers and cosmological simulati… Show more

“…An investigation of whether VDM may naturally introduce more scatter (and change in observed slope) into its core shape and the core-halo mass relation, as our idealized simulations suggest they may, is needed. In more realistic simulations, there could be additional scatter due to tidal stripping as suggested by [33] for the SDM case. It is conceivable that ultralight VDM might ameliorate the existing tensions with observational data further.…”

“…Different simulations yield different core-halo relations (e.g. Chan et al 2022;Schive et al 2014b;Mocz et al 2019;Mina et al 2020;Schwabe et al 2016;Nori & Baldi 2021;Yavetz et al 2022;Glennon et al 2022). “…The diversity of ULP soliton density profiles is particularly interesting given the mild tension between the diversity of observed halos [71] and the predicted universal properties of Fuzzy dark matter solitons, see, e.g. [72][73][74] for a discussion and constraints. In the ULP model, a diversity of halos naturally emerges from adjusting the mixture of pions that make up the dark matter halo.…”
