The distribution of Δ1-tetrahydrocannabinol and 7-hydroxy-Δ1-tetrahydrocannabinol in the mouse brain after intraventricular injection

Abstract: Al-Tetrahydrocannabinol (A1-THC) and 7-hydroxy-Al-THC were injected into the cerebral ventricles of mice by an improved technique, and the potencies of the drugs were measured by the mouse catalepsy test. Both drugs were found to have the same activity when administered by this route as after intravenous injection. Autoradiographic experiments with tritium-labelled compounds showed that at the time of the peak behavioural effect almost all the injected dose of 3H-A1-THC (1.6 mg kg-l) or 3H-7-hydroxy-A1-THC (0.… Show more

“…This may well account for persistence of the drug at site of injection (53). The situation will be further complicated if more than one drug is present as illustrated by the evidence for competition at binding sites in vivo between Ill-THC and 7-0H-THC (54). After intravenous injection oflabeled THC, autoradiography reveals small discrete spots of radioactivity in lungs and spleen; Annu.…”
