Diagnostic cyst puncture of multicystic kidney in neonates

“…US can distinguish between solid and cystic masses but difficulties may arise in differentiation between giant hydronephrosis and multicystic kidney (1 0). MCDK should, if possible, be separated from other types of unilateral cystic diseases, such as multilocular cystic kidney, multiple simple cysts and polycystic kidney disease, as the handling of these conditions may be different (4,13). In neonates a common and important problem is the differentiation between MCDK and pelviureteric obstruction causing severe hydronephrosis.…”
