The Development of the Stereotypical Attitudes in HPE Scale

Abstract: This study reflects that teacher education in Health and Physical Education (HPE) has long grappled with the challenge of how to disrupt pre-service teachers' (PSTs) established attitudes about HPE that may limit their capacity to positively engage with a diverse student population. “…We also evaluated the SMH-SETS using rating scale guidelines suggested by Linacre (1999, 2004) which include10 observations in each rating scale category.Regular observation distribution.Average measures advance monotonically with category. The outfit MNSQ is less than 2.0.Orderly series of step calibrations that advance in monotonic way.The distance or gap between response categories should be larger than 1.4 logits and less than 5.0 logits (O’Connor et al, 2016). …”

“…In educational research, some areas of inquiry move from small sample qualitative research methods to more generalisable designs utilising surveys of larger samples (e.g. O’Connor, Penney, Alfrey, Phillipson, & Phillipson, 2016). In an effort to progress our understanding of the gender-related challenges faced by male primary teachers, we decided the design of a survey using four-point Likert scale items based on the challenges previously identified through qualitative research might be instructive.…”
