The Development of Ni/Dolomite Catalyst in Simultaneous Biomass Gasification and Reforming in Fluidized Bed

Abstract: Simultaneous gasification and steam reforming of the biomass on Ni/dolomite catalyst in fluidized bed reactor were studied in the gaseous production in the one stage reactor. Problem statement: The parameters such as temperature, steam flow rate, biomass feed rate, gas flow rate for fluidization, oxygen flow rate and catalyst types were studied to produce the high gaseous products including tar elimination. Approach: The temperature at 780°C, steam flow rate of 222 mmoL h −1 , gas flow rate for fluidization 45… Show more

“…XRD patterns of 5 wt% Ni/ dolomite and 5 wt% Co/dolomite catalysts are also shown in Figure 5. XRD patterns of natural and calcined dolomite (Hu et al, 2006) and Ni/dolomite (Ketcong et al, 2009) were similar to other researchers' results. Figures 5a and 5b show the effects of catalyst species on product yields after gasification at 860°C of P. rigida and Q. variabilis, respectively.…”

“…Moreover, catalysts can be used directly as fluidizing media. Dolomite as a catalyst for biomass has been tried by Hu et al (2006) and Ketcong et al (2009). Acharya et al (2010) researched for hydrogen production from steam gasification of biomass in the presence of sorbent CaO.…”

“…In the producer gas during the gasification process, there is an undesirable complex mixture involving heavy hydrocarbons called tar. Tar elimination by thermal cracking (Bui et al, 1994) or by using a catalyst (Ketcong et al, 2009) are widely used methods. Tar can condense at low temperatures, which can lead to clogged gas pipelines and it can adhere on the filters of engines.…”
