The development of glove-based interfaces with the TRES-D methodology

Abstract: The development of 3D user interfaces is mostly focused on technology and the ways of using it, and so the main concerns are the selection of hardware, software and interaction techniques. The process of development itself is as important as these issues, but it is usually ignored or poorly documented. This paper introduces the TRES-D methodology, and illustrates its application in the development of three different glove-based interfaces, not only to show the benefits of using these devices, but also the bene… Show more

“…Moreover, the way in which user interacts with computer systems has evolved towards a new paradigm beyond the classical windows, icons, menus and pointing devices (WIMP). This new paradigm, namely Post-WIMP, is based on virtual reality, gesture recognition and wearable computers [30] (among other technologies) that makes the development of these systems significantly different than that based on classical WIMP interaction.…”

“…Implementation of touch interaction in VR studies have varied greatly. Some studies are using tracked objects to be manipulated in the VRE [1], while other studies use controllers [22], and yet other studies simply tracked the hand and fingers to interact with the VRE [14].…”
