The Development of Courseware Based on Mathematical Representations and Arguments in Number Theory Courses

Abstract: Courseware have an important role in the achievement of the objectives of education. Nevertheless, it does not mean any learning resources can be used for a type of learning. The teacher should provide and develop materials appropriate to the characteristics and the social environment of its student. Number Theory courses is one of the basic subjects that would be a prerequisite for courses at the next level, such as Linear Algebra, Complex Analysis, Real Analysis, Transformation Geometry, and Algebra Structur… Show more

“…This research was in line with Rosita (2016) that says teacher should provide and develop learning material that is suitable with the student's characteristic and social environment. The material that was developed in this research was adapted with the characteristic of integral calculus material and the learning model that was developed.…”

“…The level of difficulty of modules is appropriate for their age and stage of learning, and the level of detail is appropriate for the achievement of the specified learning outcomes. The result tells that the learning modules contributed and supported the achievement of the specific objectives (Rosita, 2016). It also reinforces, enriches, and/or leads mastery of competencies.…”

“…Context is directly related to everyday life (Supiyati, Hanum, & Jailani, 2019). Mathematizing culture and environment where it is assumed to motivate students to recognize mathematics as part of everyday life aim to enhance the student's ability, deepen their understanding of all forms of mathematics, and to make meaningful mathematical connections (Alangui, 2017;Muhtadi, Sukirwan, Warsito, & Prahmana, 2017;Rosita, 2016). Albeit, contextualization consumes much time for preparation with the unavailability of the local materials and difficulty in pedagogy.…”

“…We come across some national and international studies in the literature which examined development and usage process of teaching materials among (Koparan & Özbey, 2018;Özer & Tunca, 2014;Rosita, 2016;Kuloğlu, 2019;Calik-Uzun, Kul & Celik, 2019). Koparan and Özbey (2018) analyzed opinions of preservice mathematics teachers about concrete material development and use process.…”

“…The researchers also determined that most preservice teachers were thinking of using, when they become teachers, teaching materials which they designed as such materials facilitated learning. Rosita (2016), was aimed to describe the development of Number Theory materials that help students to improve their mathematical representation and argumentation skills in this study. At the end of the study, they said that teachers should provide and develop materials appropriate to the characteristics and social environment of the student.…”
