The background of this research is to observe the effectivenes of the Basic Reading textbook as one of learning materials for reading subject. It is intended to discover the implementation of the Basic Reading textbook in one of the private universities in West Sumatera. The method of this research is descriptive research which quantitatively approaches. The second-year students of English Department at one of the private universities in West Sumatera were taken as the sample for this research. Data collection techniques were used tests; reading tests and observation; to identify students' soft skills.The researchers used one group pretest-posttest design which is calculated by using N-Gain Normalization. The data showed that there is significantly different between the result of the test before and after using the Basic Reading textbook. The result of N-Gain calculation shows 0.43 which is categorized as moderate which means the book improves students' cognitive learning outcomes in the reading subject. Thus, students also instill core ethical values in daily living. It can be concluded that the textbook used increased students' hard and soft skills.

Tujuan penelitian: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan peranan Pembelajaran Agama Islam dalam membentuk karakterk peserta didik yang religious dan toleransi di Sekolah Dasar. Metodologi: Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian deskriptif kualitatif, dimana sumber data yang diperoleh dari kegiatan observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan menggunakan pendekatan penelitian kualitatif dimulai dari pengumpulan data, merduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Temuan utama: Peranan pembelajaran Agama Islam dalam membentuk karakter religius dan toleransi pada diri peserta didik di SDN 59/V Bram Itam yaitu menerapkan membiasakan berdoa sebelum melakukan kegiatan belajar, mengucapkan salam, serta pembelajaran seperti membaca surah yasin setiap hari jum’at, hafalan surah-surah pendek dan doa sehari-hari. Keterbaruan penelitian: Bahwa pe,nelajaran agama di sekolah dasar memiliki keterkaitan dengan pembentukan karakter yang baik pada siswa.

The local wisdom of the Javanese community needs to be maintained and developed. This is an effort to keep upholding the values of local wisdom in the millennial generation. The form of Javanese local wisdom can be material and nonmaterial culture. Material leads to real community creations such as culinary, clothing, houses, traditional ceremonies, and others. Where as nonmaterial refers to folklore, traditional games, perfoming art, and others. In addition, many traditional ceremonies also contain the value of character education that can be applied in daily life. From of this study is descriptive qualitative which source of data are grebeg saparan traditional ceremony. Data collected using in-depth interview and observation to support data analysis. In this study aims to explain how the process of implementing Grebeg Saparan in Cukilan Village are form of preserving Javanese local wisdom and what value of character education are contained in the traditional ceremony. The Grebeg Saparan was held on Friday Wage in Safar month with great fanfare. The character education contained in Grebeg Saparan are religious value, tolerance value, hard work value, creative value, friendly/ communicative value, envireonmental care value, social caring value, and responsibility value.
