The Super Smart Vehicle System (SSVS), proposed under support of the MITI, is new information systems for automobile drivers after 20-30 years from now to solve problems caused by automobiles and automobile traffic. It is based on the concept of the infernobility.Its purpose is compatibility of both safety and efficiency taking account of aging and pollution. Social background of the proposal is status of automobile traffic in Japan: accidents, congestion and pollution, technological one is previous work such as the Comprehensive Automobile Traffic Control System and the intelligent vehicles with machine vision. The SSVS deals with 4 fields: information systems for a single vehicle, for inter-vehicles and for vehicle-to-road relations, and studies on vehicle-to-driver relations. The system candidates include a cooperative driving system, a control configured vehicle system composed of ultra-little vehicles, an active driver assistance system, intelligent infrastructure, intelligent logistics, and machine vision; however, the SSVS focuses mainly on advanced vehicle control systems. The effects of the SSVS on safety of automobile traffic are also evaluated, and a simulation study shows that it may decrease up to 40 % of fatal accidents by 2020.
