An earthquake with a magnitude ranging from Mw = 6.9 (KOERI) to Mw = 7.0 (USGS) struck Samos Island in the Aegean Sea on October 30, 2020, with an epicentre 70 kms from the İzmir city centre in Turkey. The earthquake took place at 14:51 local time (11:51 UTC). The peak ground acceleration (PGA) of this earthquake was recorded to be 0.179 g at the epicentre of the earthquake. This earthquake occurred at a depth of 17.26 km (AFAD (2020) İzmir Earthquake Report, (In Turkish)) and lasted 16 s. The main shock from the earthquake triggered a tsunami that hit the building stocks built near the coast. During the gradual deregulation of COVID-19 pandemic regulations, various events caused considerable damage to the building stock, particularly in the Izmir Seferihisar and Bayraklı regions and resulted in a massive disruption of daily habits. The main shock caused 117 deaths in both Turkey and Greece, and 1632 people were also injured in Turkey. Moreover, several injuries occurred in Greece. A total of 103 buildings collapsed, 700 were severely damaged, 814 buildings were moderately damaged, and 7889 were slightly damaged. The basic aim of this paper is to briefly present the past and present seismotectonic characteristics of the region, present building stock, and former structural conditions before the earthquake, assess structural performance and classify distinguished earthquake-induced failures and damage due to the basin effect.

ABSTRAK Secara geologi, wilayah Cekungan Bandung tersusun oleh endapan danau Bandung purba yang terdiri atas lapisan lempung dengan sisipan lapisan pasir sehingga rentan terhadap likuifaksi akibat gempa bumi. Metode analisis multi-sensor gelombang permukaan (MASW) adalah salah satu metode geofisika yang menghasilkan model satu dimensi kecepatan gelombang geser (Vs) terhadap kedalaman. Makalah ini menyajikan hasil analisis potensi likuifaksi menggunakan data profil Vs di 5 lokasi yang tersebar di wilayah Cekungan Bandung. Data Vs diperoleh dengan menggunakan 24 geophone yang tersebar dengan spasi 4 meter di setiap lokasi penelitian. Hasil analisis data menggunakan metode MASW menghasilkan profil Vs dan Vs30 di setiap lokasi yang menunjukkan bahwa lapisan tanah di wilayah Cekungan Bandung dapat diklasifikasi dalam kelas situs E dan D. Sedangkan berdasarkan hasil analisis potensi likuifaksi menggunakan profil Vs, dengan mempertimbangkan percepatan tanah puncak yang dihasilkan oleh Sesar Lembang (M w 6,5), mengindikasikan bahwa lapisan pasir di dalam endapan danau purba mempunyai potensi likuifaksi pada kedalaman dan ketebalan yang bervariasi. Lapisan pasir dengan nilai Vs < 175 m/detik yang menyebabkan potensi likuifaksi di daerah Bojongemas lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan daerah lainnya. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan kesesuaian dengan hasil analisis likuifaksi berdasarkan metode uji penetrasi standar dari hasil penelitian terdahulu.Kata kunci: gelombang permukaan, kelas situs, kecepatan gelombang geser, likuifaksi, MASW ABSTRACT − The Evaluation of Liquefaction Potential in Bandung Basin Area Based on Multi-Channel Analysis of Surface Wave. The Bandung Basin region is composed of ancient Bandung lake sediment deposits consisting of thick clay layers intercalated with sand layers, which is vulnerable to liquefaction due to earthquakes. The Multi-channel Analysis ofSurface Wave (MASW) analysis method is a geophysical method that produces a onedimensional model of shear wave velocity (Vs) against depth. This paper presents the results of an analysis of the potential for liquefaction using Vs profile data at 5 locations spread across the Bandung Basin. using 24 geophones with 4-m spacing. The results of data analysis using the MASW method produce Vs and Vs30 profiles at each location which indicate that the soil layers in the Bandung Basin area can be classified into E and D site classes. Meanwhile, based on the results of the analysis of potential liquefaction using the Vs profile, taking into account the peak soil acceleration produced by the Lembang Fault (Mw 6.5), indicates that the sand layer in ancient lake sediment deposits has the potential for liquefaction at varying depths and thicknesses. Sand layer with a value of Vs <175 m / sec which causes the potential for liquefaction in the Bojongemas area is higher than in the other areas. The results of this study confirm liquefaction analysis based on the standard penetration test method from the previous study.

A representative attenuation relationship is one of the key components required in seismic hazard assessment of a region of interest. In this project, a ground-motion attenuation relationship for peak ground acceleration was developed for Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE) region. Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) as well as Building and Housing Research Center (BHRC) databases were utilized to collect strong ground motion of 90 horizontal component waveforms from different earthquakes measured by 440 stations in Iran and Sharjah. The collected dataset is composed from earthquakes that occurred in Iran with attenuation reaching UAE in moment magnitude varying from 4 to 7.3. The relationships derived are for distances up to 100 km, in a time period from 2008 to 2018. Attributes considered for each earthquake include earthquake date, time of occurrence, moment magnitude, depth, epicentral distance, acceleration time series, peak ground acceleration (PGA), and time shear velocity as well as event location and coordinates. A set of statistical analysis techniques was used to analyze and validate earthquake records. In this study, different attenuation relationship equations utilized for similar regions were collected from literature of previous work done in multiple countries. Based on the collected equations, new equations that are more suitable for Sharjah were developed by applying nonlinear regression analysis using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) statistics software and MATLAB. Accordingly, an optimum model was formulated that best suits Sharjah study area characteristics. The developed ground-motion prediction equations derived in the study can be used to predict earthquake-prone locations in UAE and other locations with similar characteristics. Additional artificial neural network (ANN) calculations were generated to verify the attenuated PGA mode in Sharjah based on Iranian attributes.
