The Developing World’s Contribution to Global Warming and the Resulting Consequences of Climate Change in These Regions: A Nigerian Case Study

Abstract: Hundreds of millions of urban dwellers in low-and middle-income nations are at risk as 4-5 of the global weather-driven disasters experienced are consequent of a changing climate. Studies have shown that residents in least developed countries have ten times more chances of being affected by these climate disasters than those in wealthy countries. Further, critical views have it, that it would take over 100years for lower income countries to attain the resiliency of developed countries. Unfortunately, global So… Show more

“…Overall, the models show more agreement in the MR projections of Rx5d than in the LR. The strong agreement in the increasing (and decreasing) projections of Rx5d, particularly in the wet seasons for MR SSP585‐FF and encapsulating almost all regions of Indonesia except regions of Java and Nusa Tenggara, highlight the urgent need for adaptation and mitigation actions to address significant changes in Rx5d projections, particularly in developing and less developed countries like Indonesia, which are more vulnerable to climate‐related disasters (Oyilieze Akanwa & Joe‐Ikechebelu, 2019; Cevik & Jalles, 2022; Tunji‐Olayeni et al, 2019).…”

“…Of note, the launching of the African Climate Mobility Initiative (ACMI) will continue to assist the works of the African Union member states in addressing the complex issues of climate-related forced internal and external migration and leverage on possibilities that come with the African climate-induced migration. Notably, climate changes will escalate diverse impacts, such as rising sea level and extreme weather in the West African region, particularly Nigeria [21] in addition to the worsening socioeconomic milieu. However, in recent times, modern sophisticated modeling technologies coupled with improved research studies have provided atmospheric scientists the ability to determine and comprehend the causes of the majority of weather events, particularly the events influenced and heightened by climate change.…”
