The Determination of Some Spermatological and Hematological Parameters of Shabbout (Barbus grypus, H; 1843) in Atatürk Dam Lake, Şanlıurfa

Abstract: This study was carried out to determine some spermatological parameters and hematological characteristics of the B. grypus (H, 1843) in the spawning season. Investigation was performed using 20 B. grypus males captured from Atatürk Dam Lake. Milt and blood samples were collected and evaluated daily in sampling day. In collected milt, the mean values of milt volume (µL), the percentage of motile spermatozoa (%), duration of motility (s), spermatozoa concentration (x10 9 /mL) and pH were 886.00 ±78.76, 71.25 ±4… Show more

“…The values of WBC in this study (1345.1±314.22, 15133564 ±2851414 and 19536900± 4594589 /mm 3 ) for three different groups of fish length that were higher than stated values of (Doğu et al, 2014) The values of MCHC of B. grypus were reported as 45.4±13.68, 25.6±0.89 and 27.9±1.18 % for (20-30cm, 30-40 cm and 40-50 cm) length, respectively. Our data were confirmed by (Doğu et al, 2014) that they reported The MCHC values in B. grypus was 26.47±0.84.Cyprinidae species like C. trutta, S. glanis, C. lazera, O. niloticus and T. zillii were stated as 30.32 ±0.80 %, 30.66 ±0.49 %, 31.20 ±0.85 %, 31.00 ±0.01 % and 33.14 ±1.88%, respectively (Örün and ErdemLi, 2002;Aydın et al, 1998;Yavuzcan et al, 1997;Gbore et al, 2006).…”

“…This fish, popularly known as Şabut (Shabout) fish, is an endemic species living in the Euphrates and Tigris river systems in Türkiye, Iraq, Iran, and Syria (Nikpey, 1996;Abdoli, 2000;Göçer, 2022). There are many studies on A. grypus living in this basin, some of which are as follows; growth, reproduction and heavy metal characteristics (Oymak et al, 2008;2009); spermatological and hematological features (Dogu et al, 2014;Khodadadi et al, 2016), genetic features (Parmaksız et al, 2017;. The delicious meat of the A. grypus species causes it to be preferred by the local people and increases its economic importance.…”
