The Design Patterns for Language Learning and the Assessment on Game-Based Learning

Abstract: Digital game-based learning is the approach to integrate digital games to support learning both inside and outside the classroom. It is promising the way of learning beyond traditional learning where digital learning context is available. The learning game hence requires some qualities that meet both learning outcomes and learner engagement. Thus, the design patterna game template for creating the learner game is proposed. Creating such design patterns on the software engineering perspective is presented and t… Show more

“…After using the Kahoot course review tool, participants in this study improved their learning performance. The average improvement was 6.167 points (SD = 9.433), In addition, studies have shown that learning games require certain qualities that meet learning outcomes and learner engagement [78]. In this study, participants also had a high level of game flow when performing Kahoot answering activities (M = 4.138, SD = .605) which was consistent with the argument that learners bring meaningful learning with game-based learning.…”

“…At the same time, researchers in the field also started to provide good ideas for later research, although there is still a gap between the scoring results and teachers' manual scoring. Today, the field of artificial intelligence has undergone new changes, the most significant of which is the maturation of deep learning technology [3]. Deep learning learns data at a deeper level through multilayer networks, uncovering richer features.…”

“…There are a considerable number of useful studies on the gamified application for learning and teaching languages. Sriharee (2020) proposes design patterns in both software and educational perspectives to design a game-based approach to design patterns in both software and educational perspectives to design a game-based approach to learn the Thai language. This proposed pattern can be used to develop game applications for learning other languages.…”
