The design of a proximity inductive sensor

Abstract: In this paper we discuss the advantages of flat coil inductive proximity sensors. The coil copper helix may be realized by application of a photoengraving technique to two side-printed boards by a very cheap process. The low thickness allows one to get the coil closer to the target. This fact allows one to attain a higher sensitivity. The coil's low intrinsic capacitance and inductance allow one to work at high frequencies (up to some megahertz). As a consequence the sensor's time constant may decrease to some… Show more

“…The proximity information will prevent the robots from accidental collision, which may cause damage to the humans or to themselves [1]. There have been various proximity measurements for robots so far such as ultrasonic, optical, infrared, inductive and capacitive sensors [5][6][7][8][9][10]. Among them, the capacitive proximity sensor [11][12][13][14][15] and the temperature sensor are suitable for integration as both of them consist of simple electrodes only and a temperature sensor fabricated by the GNP film has good temperature sensitive properties.…”

“…The sensor is simple in construction and hence widely used for the detection of mechanical variables such as position or displacement [2]. Since the relationship between the induced voltage and the condition of a workpiece is affected by the electrical conductivity and magnetic permeability of the object and the geometrical configuration [3], it is very difficult to define the * Corresponding author. relationship theoretically.…”
