The Dermatology Life Quality Index 1994-2007: a comprehensive review of validation data and clinical results

Abstract: During the last 14 years there has been a gradual increase in the international use of the DLQI. The brevity and simplicity of use of the DLQI has resulted in its popularity both in clinical practice and in research. However, there are various issues in particular regarding its unidimensionality, differential item functioning, and minimal clinically important difference, which require further research. This article should facilitate the work of potential users of the DLQI by providing a readily available sourc… Show more

“…Daily UAS values (0-6 points) were calculated on the patient's conditions over the previous 24 hours, by adding the score value for number of wheals (0-3) and for pruritus intensity (0-3), as already described (10). Patients quality of life was evaluated at baseline by Chronic Urticaria Quality Of Life Questionnaire (CU-Q2oL) and other metrics commonly used in clinical practice (Visual Analogic Scale, VAS; Dermatology Life Quality Index, DLQI) (1,(10)(11)(12)(13)(14).…”

“…The DLQI consists of 10 items and the total score ranges from 0 to 30; a score of 0 or 1 indicates no effect (of the skin condition) on the patient's life, while a score of 21–30 indicates an extremely large effect on the patient's life. The minimal clinically important difference for the DLQI has been estimated as a 2‐ to 5‐point change from baseline;25 here, a minimal clinically important difference of ≥ 5‐point change from baseline is used.…”
