The? + decay of the new isotope86Mo and the first observation of86m Nb

Abstract: Abstract. The fl+ decay of 86Mo has been firstly investigated by means of f17 spectroscopy. The 86Mo nuclei were produced by fusion-evaporation reactions of 54Fe (35C1, 1 p2n) and 58Ni (32S, 2p 2n) at beam energies of 103 and t20 MeV, respectively. Three 7 rays of 47.3, 49.8 and 187.0 keV were unambiguously identified to follow the fl+ decay of 86Mo by results of X7 and f17 coincidence and cross-bombardment. A half life and a maximum fl+-ray energy of 86Mo were determined to be 19.6_ 1.1 s and 3.9_+ 0.4 MeV, r… Show more

“…The half-life of 86 Mo has been determined from the time behaviour of γ-, Nb K X-ray and electron peaks. The weighted average value is 19.1 ± 0.3 s confirming the half-life of 19.6 ± 1.1 s obtained in [23]. No indication of the existence of an isomer in 86 Nb with a half-life of 56 s [23] has been observed.…”

“…fed by the beta decay of 86 Mo [23]. The cascade nature is supported by strong coincidences between the electrons from one of the 47.7 keV and 50.1 keV transitions and the γ-line of the other transition (see fig.…”

“…For example, a half-life measurement using the isobarically purified beta emitters after JYFLTRAP would allow us to distinguish between the 20.9-s ground state and the suggested isomers with half-lives of 3.3(9) s [37] and 12(5) s [10]. 86 Nb 86 Nb has a (6 + ) ground state with a half-life of 88(1) s and a suggested high-spin isomer with a half-life of 56(8) s [48]. In the HIGISOL run employing a 150 − 170 MeV 32 S 7+ beam on a nat Ni target [37], accumulation times of 40 s and 200 s were used for A = 86.…”
