The dc volume resistivity of plasticized PVC

Abstract: SynopsisA study has been made of the dc volume resistivity of plasticized PVC using a guarded-electrode system in a sensitive vibrating capacitor-electrometer circuit. Transient effects were found to be pronounced in all but the least plasticized compositions, and the behavior in general was non-Ohmic.The resistivity decreases with plasticizer concentration and with temperature; an Arrhenius-type relationship is observed and resistivity undergoes an inflection at the glass transition temperature. The mechanism… Show more

“…These values are consistent with previous reports. For example, PVC plasticized with 66 wt-% di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate can have a resistivity as low as 1.63 MΩ·cm [41], but higher values are possible depending on the type of plasticizer and the membrane composition [42]. …”

“…The cable cover material must have high electrical insulation properties conjugated with high flammability resistance, providing maximum protection and safety levels [40][41][42][43]. Figure 12 represents the electrical behavior (volume resistivity-ρ) of plasticized poly(vinyl chloride) containing Oxydtron.…”
