The d-L(π)-π type of charge-transfer salt [Cu(Me-tri)2][Ni(dmit)2]2: Interaction between copper(ii) d- and Ni(dmit)2π-electrons via π-conjugated macrocyclic ligands

Abstract: In order to correlate d-electrons of copper(II) ions with p-electrons of Ni(dmit) 2 (dmit ¼ 2-thioxo-1,3-dithiole-4,5-dithiolate) acceptors, we prepared the d-L(p)-p type of charge-transfer salt [Cu(Metri) , where the p-conjugated system of ligand Me-tri (L(p)) is expected to behave as a mediator to link the d-and the p-electrons. In the crystal, Ni(dmit) 2 anions with S ¼ 1/2 p-spin form face-to-face dimers, and divalent Cu(Me-tri) 2 cations exist with their L(p) planes almost parallel to the dimers. From ma… Show more

“…Similar, but not as extreme, behavior has been previously seen and was attributed to strong intermolecular anti‐ferromagnetic interactions between molecules. [11b], All these reported molecules have in common the formation of dimers in the crystal structure. In the FDT case, the observed susceptibility can also be due to the formation of the diamagnetic species (FDT) QI with decreasing temperature.…”

“…C-HÁÁÁp or pÁÁÁp) are popularly used to mediate the structures and properties of Cu II -based dyes. [27][28][29][30][31] So the design and synthesis of Cu I complexes as sensitisers with supramolecular structures is relatively difficult but important. [32] We report the synthesis, structure, characterisation, and spectroscopic properties of two compounds [Cu 2 (pbb)(2,2 0bipyridine) 2 ](BF 4 ) 2 (1) and [Cu 2 (pbb)(phen) 2 ](BF 4 ) 2 (2) (pbb ¼ 1,4-bis(2-(diphenylphophino)benzylideneamino)benzene) (Chart 1).…”
