The current status and trends of DNA extraction

Abstract: DNA extraction, playing an irreplaceable role in molecular biology as it is an essential step prior to various downstream biological analyses. Thus, the accuracy and reliability of downstream research outcomes depend largely on upstream DNA extraction methodology. However, with the advancement of downstream DNA detection techniques, the development of corresponding DNA extraction methods is lagging behind. The most innovative DNA extraction techniques are silica‐ or magnetic‐based. Recent studies have demonstr… Show more

“…RAA‐coupled lateral flow strips allow the simplest detection procedure with the same sensitivity. Moreover, the biggest impediment for field adaptation is sample preparation, which is often a multistep procedure requiring columns or magnetic beads and depends on laboratory instruments 24,25 . It is believed that one‐step sample preparation and fast detection technology together enable rapid, point‐of‐care detection of MPXV, allow early identification and self‐isolation of mpox.…”

“…Numerous experimental protocols for DNA isolation and purification have been described in the literature. These protocols typically include a cell lysis step, followed by DNA separation from various impurities. The most commonly used separation strategies broadly fall into three categories: DNA precipitation, liquid phase extraction, and solid phase extraction.…”
