“…Wound cultures were not routinely performed for AIOWs, especially for those presenting to the emergency department unless there were signs of infection. Literature studies generally agree that prophylactic antibiotics should be reserved for moderate to severe wounds, wounds that present 8 hours after the bite, deep puncture wounds such as cat bites, wounds located on the hand and face and for patients with diabetes mellitus or an immunocompromised state (1,(10)(11)(12). Although literature studies do not recommend antibiotic prophylaxis for all AIOWs, all patients in this study were given oral amoxicilline-clavulonate for 5-7 days in the light that their general environment was not sanitary.…”
