In recent years, service industries in many countries have grown rapidly and now play an important role in national employment and GDP; moreover, as living standards have risen, intangible service qualities have become increasingly important. Thus, as one of the closest commercial links to consumers, department stores should strive to enhance the quality of their services to attract and retain customers and to maintain their competitiveness. In this study, the Retail Service Quality Scale was adopted and the Kano and Refined Kano models were applied to extract service-quality factors; then, the importance-satisfaction (I-S) model was used to clarify the service-quality factors to be improved before employing the theory of inventive problem-solving method to measure innovation. Finally, the service-quality and quality factors falling in the I-S model's excellent area were imported into quality function deployment using the voice of the customer process to establish a department-store house of quality for innovative service. Based on its empirical results, this study proposes a general framework for innovative service-quality for department stores to use in formulating service innovation strategies. The findings and developed framework will improve the performance of department stores by enhancing the quality of service.

The analysis of a new product realization from the view of customer requirements and a relevant technical response of a company is presented in this paper. Two types of tools are used: QFD and AHP. HOQ within QFD is used for modeling technical requirements on the basis of defined customer demands. AHP serves as an addition in the process of technical requirements definition, it is used as a strategy for fast response to customer requirements. A comparison between leading foreign and domestic producers of transmitters has also been presented. HOQ realization on the example of intelligent pressure transmitter has shown that design parameters were defined. The implementation of AHP methodology has pointed at the significance of modular architecture for transmitter realization. Original contribution of this work is reflected in QFD analysis solutions -customer requirements were satisfied by giving technical characteristics with the aim of a new product realization.

The Comparative Significance of Contingencies to Quality Management

The purpose of this research is to examine the relative effect of contingencies such as organizational characteristics and business environment on the implementation of quality management system in business. The predictor variables affect the adoption of quality management system at different levels. Nonetheless, these influential levels have not been assessed and compared amongst the predictor variables. This research uses the analytic hierarchy procedure to evaluate and rank the comparative importance that the predictor variables play in implementing quality management system in business. Then for the robustness of the findings from the analytic hierarchy procedure, this research also employs mean-test procedures to re-assesses the relative importance levels. The findings are robust across the two methods. Organizational characteristics are more important than business environment in explaining the implementation of quality management system. Of the twelve elements of organizational characteristics and environmental uncertainty, decentralization is the most imperative; whereas technology is the least essential. This research has some implications on how business executives should adopt quality management system facing different types of organizational characteristics and business environment.
