The Creative Alternative Game

Abstract: In this article we (1) defend the use of game simulations as experiments to test communication-related theories, but argue that game theory per se and the Prisones's Dilemma game are of limited research value to students of communication; (2) explicate a mixed-motive game experiment (Creative Alternative) which permits systematic investigation of interpersonal influence processes; and (3) discuss the use of the Creative Alternative game to study the effects of alternative compliance-gaining strategies.
