The correlation between intelligence, creativity and the parameters of sensorimotor integration in children of different ages

Abstract: Introduction. Analysis of the literature suggests that the particular nature of the interplay between a person's creativity and intelligence is determined not only by the conditions in which a person develops and their personality traits, but also their age. Objective. The purpose of this study was to compare the interaction between the levels of creativity and intelligence of 7 to 8 year-old children and 12 to 13 yearold teenagers, by studying how 7-8 year-old children and young teenagers (12-13 years old) wi… Show more

“…Therefore, along with the development of the executive functions of the nervous system, one should expect that with age individually more stable strategies for solving problems are formed, combining convergent and divergent thinking depending on the content and the context of the problems. Indeed, the analysis of age-related particulars of the relationship between intelligence and creativity has shown it to be more stable in older children ( Nikolaeva et al 2018 ).…”

“…To evaluate the processes developing in the working memory, a technique [24] was used which allowed the researchers to study visual object memorization on a computer screen. The technique included three series, during which the same set of simple objects (30 units) was presented, but the order of presentation varied from series to series.…”

“…Both processes [14] determine the result of testing the WM. Apparently, the RIF and RBL mechanisms are formed independently of each other and have different critical periods [15].…”

“…In addition to these factors, it has recently been proposed to focus on a forgotten part of creativity: sensorimotor components. As a matter of fact, some recent studies focused on the links shared by these two processes (e.g., Nikolaeva et al, 2018 ; Gaggioli et al, 2019 ; Fleury et al, 2020 ). Recently, neuroscience studies highlighted the involvement of motor regions, such as the premotor cortex, the supplementary and pre-supplementary motor areas, and the posterior inferior frontal gyrus, in musical creativity ( Bashwiner, 2018 ; Bashwiner and Bacon, 2019 ).…”
