“…This might suggest these social media platforms are paths for participating within both academic professional communities and potential patients, thus, it should attract the interest of clinicians and scientific researchers. In our study, Twitter hold the majority of online platforms, which is consistent with other studies [9,19].…”

“…Our study demonstrated a lack of strong association between novel Altmetric score and traditional bibliometrics, which is sup-ported by the low coefficients of determination furtherly. It indicates that traditional bibliometrics and Altmetric score should not be seen alternatively but complementarily when evaluating the scientific impact of publications, which was also demonstrated by pre-vious studies in other fields including orthopaedic, implantology, plastic surgery and pe-diatric surgery[9][10][11][12]. Shortness of papers with high evidence level was found in our data, which is similar with most traditional bibliometric studies[13][14][15].…”

“…Although the citation rate remains the gold standard measure of long-term academic impact, 22 it fails to account for certain aspects of modern research consumption, including the extent to which an article is mentioned in news articles, blog posts, and social media. 8 The Altmetric Attention Score (AAS) is a measure of digital impact and dissemination of research that takes into account the aggregate internet-based consumption of research articles. 26 Specifically within orthopaedics and medical research, the AAS has been shown to correlate with citation rates.…”

“…Articles that elicit early nonacademic attention may be more likely to be noticed by other researchers, which could increase the likelihood that the research will be applied and cited in subsequent research. Indeed, past research in numerous fields has investigated the relationship between altmetric scores and citation counts and found little to no association 6–10 . However, no previous research has focused on this relationship in clinical/translational research, which aims to advance discoveries across boundaries from basic science to public use.…”
