“…In this patient the fascial sling was at the initial surgery too short excised to be sutured to Cooper's ligament and was thus sutured to the periosteum of the Symphysis. Osteomyelitis pubis has been a rare but typical complication of the original technique of urethro-vesicopexy to the back side of the Symphysis in the female (14,15,18) and was the main reason why this technique of fixation has been abandoned.…”

“…4 These early mesh materials (gore-tex, mersilene, and marlex) had intrinsic characteristics (polyfilament verses monofilament, different pore sizes) rendering them more susceptible to high rates of complications and eventually leading to their complete abandonment. During this time, retropubic urethropexies (ie, Marshal-Marchetti in 1949 13 and Burch urethropexy in 1961 14 ) were described as correcting urethral hypermobility and preventing the bladder neck from descending below the pubic symphysis. Less invasive procedures were described (ie, Pereyra, 15 Stamey needle suspension, 16 Raz urethropexy, 17 and Raz four-corner suspension 18 ); however, these procedures had the same complication: tearing of suture through the periurethral tissues.…”

“…El MMK fue descrito por primera vez en 1949 en un hombre con IU posterior a una prostatectomía. 31 La descripción original habla de la colocación de suturas vaginales laterales y en el tejido periuretral que se anclan a la sínfisis púbica. Por otra parte, la colposuspensión de Burch descrita en 1961,consiste en aproximar la fascia periuretral al ligamento de Cooper (ileopectíneo) usando tres pares de suturas (►Fig.…”
