“…As a possible source of explanation Italian OMPTs were trained by their University to apply conservative strategies for the management of the patients' complaints without using drugs or prescripting images (e.g., US, MRI, MRA) [27]. Contrarily, orthopaedic surgeons were educated to use drugs and to perform surgery during their University training, thus limiting their knowledge about physiotherapy and rehabilitation [40]. The results from the current study agree with other surveys on rotator cuff disorders performed in different European countries such as Italy [8], United Kingdom [9], Belgium and Netherlands [58].…”

In their recent study, Kellam and colleagues [3] made great strides in defining the capabilities of a general orthopaedic surgeon in practice. Using their study as a jumping off point, future researchers should develop an educational plan detailing how to become a general orthopaedic surgeon in 5 years.…”

“…Owing to limited employment opportunities in government hospitals, many surgeons in Southern Africa are forced into private practice 2 . Here, the distribution of trauma and elective surgery often mirrors high-resource settings, where arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder is ranked among the 10 most common procedures for a general orthopaedic surgeon 3 . For knee arthroscopy in this sector, an estimated 10 knee arthroscopies are performed per 10,000 population annually 4 .…”
