The coordinate-tracking detector based on the drift chambers for ultrahigh-energy cosmic ray investigations

Abstract: The project of the tracking detector designed for a joint operation with Cherenkov water detector NEVOD and based on the drift chambers from the neutrino experiment at the IHEP accelerator U-70 is presented. The project is aimed at solving a problem called 'muon puzzle'growing with energy excess of muon content in EAS in comparison with contemporary models of their development, which was registered in various experiments. Joint operation of the coordinatetracking detector and Cherenkov water calorimeter will a… Show more

“…Besides, the size of its cells limits the possibility of separating two or more particles at small distances (less than 3 cm). The new coordinate-tracking detector [5] based on drift chambers will increase the coverage of the side aperture of the Cherenkov water detector (CWD) NEVOD and significantly improve the resolution of close tracks.…”

“…On the other hand, the DECOR detector is capable of separating particle tracks at a distance of 3 cm, which limits its capabilities when registering high-density bundles of muons. The new TREK detector [23,24], consisting of 264 multiwire drift chambers forming two coordinate planes, will significantly increase the accuracy of reconstruction of such events (Figure 6). Its area is a record 250 m 2 for cosmic ray tracking detector, which makes it possible to cover the side surface of the Cherenkov water detector.…”
