The controversy over Ancient Greek as a school subject: education, ideology, and politics in times of crisis

Abstract: This article examines the controversy over Ancient Greek [AG] as a school subject, a controversy that re-emerged in 2016, when SYRIZA was in power. The issue is ideologically charged: classical antiquity has played a fundamental role in shaping modern Greek ethnic identity.
