The Control and Surveillance of Systemic Contraceptives in Australia

Abstract: SUMMARY The general control and surveillance of therapeutic drugs in Australia is discussed. Problems concerned with the systemic contraceptives, in particular the assessment of carcinogenicity arc detailed. It is suggested that monitoring and surveillance systems need to be extended and that the participation of Government in the field of hospital records, coding, morbidity statistics and research into drugrelated problems should be increased.
