We have calculated partial final-state resolved radiative recombination (RR) rate coefficients from the initial ground and metastable levels of all elements up to and including Zn, plus Kr, Mo, and Xe, for all isoelectronic sequences up to Na-like forming Mg-like. The data are archived according to the Atomic Data and Analysis Structure (ADAS) data class adf48, which spans a temperature range of z 2 (10 1 Y10 7 ) K, where z is the initial ion charge. Fits to total rate coefficients have been determined, for both the ground and metastable levels, and those for the ground are presented here.Comparison is made both with previous RR rate coefficients and with (background) R-matrix photoionization cross sections. This RR database complements a dielectronic recombination (DR) database already produced, and both are being used to produce updated ionization balances for both (electron) collisionally ionized and photoionized plasmas.

Photoionization cross sections have been calculated by means of the Scaled-ThomasFermi method for the alkali metals and the alkaline earths. Using these results the absorption coefficients for bound-free transitions have been obtained for thermal plasmas of 6000 to 20,000 K and wavelengths from 500 to 10,000•. In addition the oscillator strengths are given for the principal series of the alkali metals.

The absolute cross sections of photoabsorption, photodissociation, and photoionization of the group VIB metal hexacarbonyls at 300-1600 Å This article presents a simple measuring apparatus that is capable of measuring column density and absolute photoabsorption cross sections. The apparatus includes a simple high-temperature heatpipe furnace, an MKS Instruments Baratron, a hydrogen discharge lamp, and an optical detecting system. The heatpipe furnace provides an absorbing medium with a steady total pressure in a closed system so that the column density can be obtained using the ideal gas relation. The apparatus is designed for a working temperature range below 1000 K and a pressure range up to 10 Torr. Encountered experimental difficulties and their found solutions will be discussed in detail. In this work, the absolute photoabsorption cross section of Mg is measured near the 3s threshold using this apparatus. The absolute photoabsorption cross section result at the 3s threshold, which is 2.1Ϯ0.3 Mb, is in good agreement with hook method data ͑2.36 Mb͒.
