Abstract: This chapter discusses the history and co-evolution of the pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis with its human definitive host, highlighting aspects of microbial genetic adaptation to chemotherapeutic pressures, as well as its impact on modern human genetics as seen in rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes and cancer.
