This paper is dedicated to the identification of constitutive parameters of elasto-viscoplastic constitutive law from measurements performed on deep underground cavities (typically tunnels). This inverse problem is solved by the minimization of a cost functional of least-squares type. The exact gradient is computed by the direct differentiation method and the descent is done using the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm. The method is presented for lined or unlined structures and is applied for an elastoviscoplastic constitutive law of the Perzyna class. Several identification problems are presented in one and two dimensions for different tunnel geometries. The used measurements have been obtained by a preliminary numerical simulation and perturbed with a white noise. The identified responses match the measurements. We also discuss the usage of the sensitivity analysis of the system, provided by the direct differentiation method, for the optimization of in situ monitoring. The sensitivity distribution in space and time assess the location of the measurements points as well as the time of observation needed for reliable identification.

SUMMARYThis paper presents a system identi"cation scheme to determine the geometric shape of an inclusion in a "nite body. The proposed algorithm is based on the minimization of the least-squared errors between the measured displacement "eld and calculated displacement "eld by the "nite element model. The domain parameterization technique is adopted to manipulate the shape variation of an inclusion. To stabilize the optimization process, a new regularization function de"ned by the length of the boundary curve of an inclusion is added to the error function. A variable regularization factor scheme is proposed for a consistent regularization e!ect. The modi"ed Newton method with the active set method is adopted for optimization.

SUMMARYIn this contribution an algorithm for parameter identiÿcation of thermoelastic damage models is proposed, in which non-uniform distributions of the state variables such as stresses, strains, damage variables and temperature are taken into account. To this end a least-squares functional consisting of experimental data and simulated data is minimized, whereby the latter are obtained with the ÿnite-element method. In order to improve the e ciency of the minimization process, a gradient-based optimization algorithm is applied, and therefore the corresponding sensitivity analysis for the coupled variational problem is described in a systematic manner. For illustrative purpose, the performance of the algorithm is demonstrated for a non-homogeneous shear problem with thermal loading.
