Objectives: Little is known about the association between specific types of screen time and adolescents’ substance use. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the associations between screen time for studying, working, watching movies, playing games, and using social media and frequency of alcohol and tobacco use.Methods: In this cross-sectional study, Brazilian adolescents answered survey questions related to frequency of tobacco and alcohol consumption, and reported their daily volume of five types of screen time. Multilevel ordered logistic regression models were performed.Results: Each 1-hour increase in ST for studying was associated with 26% lower odds of smoking (OR = 0.74; 95% CI: 0.61–0.90) and 17% lower odds of drinking alcohol (OR = 0.83; 95% CI: 0.76–0.91) in the past 30 days. The increase of 1 hour of social media use was associated with 10% greater odds of smoking (OR = 1.10; 95% CI: 1.02–1.18) and a 13% greater chance of consuming alcohol (OR = 1.13; 95% CI: 1.08–1.18) in the past 30 days.Conclusion: The association between screen time and substance use appears to be type-specific. Future longitudinal research is needed to explore causal relationships.

Screen time adalah waktu yang digunakan dengan perangkat elektronik yang memiliki layar seperti smartphone, televisi, laptop, tablet, dan media digital lainnya. Salah satu dampak dari penggunaan gadget adalah remaja sering menggunakan media sosial pada gadget mereka, yang menyebabkan mereka menghabiskan lebih banyak waktu bermain gadget akibatya remaja memerlukan waktu tidur lebih lama dari pada biasanya. Desain penelitian ini merupakan studi kuantitatif menggunakan pendekatan cross sectional study dan bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis hubungan antara durasi screen time dengan gangguan tidur pada remaja dengan total sampling sebanyak 183 siswa. Hasil analisis menggunakan Chi-Square menunjukan adanya hubungan yang signifikan terkait durasi screen time dengan kejadian gangguan tidur insomnia di SMK Informatika Sumedang dengan nilai (p=0,036). Diperoleh kesimpulan ada korelasi terkait durasi screen time dengan salah satu jenis gangguan tidur yaitu insomnia. Diharapkan remaja lebih bijak dalam menggunakan waktu penggunaan layar dan menemukan hobi atau beraktivitas di luar ruangan seperti olahraga, seni atau kegiatan sosial. Selain itu diharapkan kepada orangtua untuk memberikan bimbingan dan memantau penggunaan layar remaja secara teratur.

The lifestyle of urban areas causes the high use of technology and digitalization. This impacts decreasing physical activity levels, increasing sedentary behavior, and highscreen viewing habits. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between physical activity, sedentary behavior, and screen time to the nutritional status of children. The research method uses a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The research population was 418 students, and with purposive sampling obtained 105 samples. The research instrument used the PAQ-C and ASAQ questionnaires. Statistical test using spearmen rank. All data were analyzed using the SPSS Version 21 program. The results showed no significant relationship between physical activity and sedentary behavior with the nutritional status of elementary school students in urban areas. with sig value. 0.738 > 0.05 and sig. 0.100>0.05. M eanwhile, there is a significant relationship between screen time and the nutritional status of children in urban areas, with a value of sig.0.001 <0.05. Screen time is an indicator that has the most significant relationship to the nutritional status of elementary school students in urban areas.
