The complete mitochondrial genome of the diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae)

Abstract: The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Plutella xylostella (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae) was determined (GenBank accession No. KM023645). The length of this mitogenome is 16,014 bp with 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes and an A + T-rich region. It presents the typical gene organization and order for completely sequenced lepidopteran mitogenomes. The nucleotide composition of the genome is highly A + T biased, accounting for 81.48%, with a slightly positive AT skewness (0.005)… Show more

“…This region is highly A+T biased, accounting for 82.53%, and exhibit positive AT-skewness (0.012), while negative GC skewness (-0.155) (Table 4). All tRNA spresented the typical cloverleaf secondary structure but trnS1 lacked the DHU stem (Fig 5) similar to several other previously sequenced Lepidopterans[10, 28]. Moreover 14 of the 22 tRNA genes were coded by the H-strand and remainder eight by the L-strand.…”

“…Its negative GC skew ( − 0.234) is similar to that seen in other animals. Cox1 is thought to initiate with CGA, as found in other lepidopteran insects1213. Cox1 and cox2 terminate with a single T, while nad4 terminates with TA.…”

“…We carried out de novo assembly and annotation of the P. australiana mitochondrial genome which has a total length of 15, 962 bp (GenBank accession MG787473.1) compared with 16, 014 bp of P. xylostella (Dai, et al 2016b). Using sequence homology to the P.…”
