The complete mitochondrial genome of the Basidiomycete edible fungus Pleurotus eryngii

Abstract: The complete mitochondrial genome of the edible fungus Pleurotus eryngii (oyster mushroom) was determined using Illumina sequencing. This mitogenome is a circular molecule of 72,650 bp in length with a GC content of 26.28%. Gene prediction showed that 40 putative protein-coding genes, the small ribosomal RNA subunits (rns), and 23 tRNAs were located on the same strand. The mitogenome of P. eryngii has a similar structure to that of P. ostreatus … Show more

“…The Ka/Ks values for 13 out of the 15 core PCGs were less than 1, indicating that these genes were subjected to purifying selection. However, we observed the Ka/Ks values of the nad3 gene were more than 1 between some species, including between Pleurotus platypus (Li et al 2018a ) and Flammulina velutipes (Yoon et al 2012 ), between Pleurotus eryngii (Yang et al 2016 ) and Flammulina velutipes , as well as between Pleurotus ostreatus (Wang et al 2008 ) and Flammulina velutipes . The Ka/Ks value of the rps3 gene was more than 1 between most of the 22 Agaricales species we detected.…”

“…The Pleurotus species establish a wide range of interactions with other organisms, and are efficient bioconverters of lignocellulosic residues into human food (Tsuneda and Thorn 1995;Philippoussis 2009). The biodiversity of Pleurotus remains highly investigated and recently, molecular studies have increase our knowledge about intra and inter-specific heterogeneity of the genus Pleurotus using both ribosomal and mitochondrial DNA (Li and Yao 2004;Wang et al 2008;Yang et al 2016;Chaudhary and John 2017). The edible fungus Pleurotus cornucopiae is emerging as an important species in the genus, with isolation of medicinal metabolites from the fruiting body (Wang et al 2012).…”

“…All the monokaryon strains were isolated from dikaryon using the protoplast method (Bao et al 2013) and cultivated under 25 C on PDA medium for five days. Total DNA extraction, library construction, Illumina sequencing and sequences processing were performed according to the methods previous published (Yang et al 2016;Xu et al 2018). The filtered high quality sequences were assembled into different contigs using A5-miseq 2.0 (Sydney, Australia, Coil et al 2014).…”
