The Complete Mitochondrial Genome of endemic giant tarantula, Lyrognathus crotalus (Araneae: Theraphosidae) and comparative analysis

Abstract: Rajasree chakraborty, priya prasad, Shantanu Kundu, inderjeet tyagi & Kailash chandra the complete mitochondrial genome of Lyrognathus crotalus is sequenced, annotated and compared with other spider mitogenomes. It is 13,865 bp long and featured by 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), and two ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs), 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), and a control region (CR). Most of the pcGs used Atn start codon except cox3, and nad4 with ttG. comparative studies indicated the use of ttG, ttA, ttt, GtG, ctG, ctA… Show more

“…The atp8 gene with the highest averages of both Ka and Ka/Ks suggests more changes in amino acids. This is also consistent with the previously identified Ka/Ks ratios in other spiders [37], insects [36] and fishes [38]. The higher Ka/Ks values indicate that the atp8 gene might have experienced more relaxed selective constraints and accumulated more mutations, thus it would be more likely to lose its function [36].…”

“…As in most Araneae mitogenomes, the nucleotide composition shows a low G+C, with contents of less than 35% and small variations between species 13,14 , similar to those observed in Metazoan mitogenomes 33 . In addition, the majority strand contains 22 genes and a minority contains 15 genes, similar features to those presented in other spider mitogenomes 4,14 .…”

“…The infraorder Opisthothelae is classi ed into two suborders Mygalomorphae and Araneomorphae. The family Ctenidae belongs to the suborder Araneomorphae of infraorder Opisthothelae, with 49 genera and 533 species 2,4 . Despite their importance, the phylogenetic relationships of species belonging to the family Ctenidae remain under study.…”

“…It contains its own genetic system, with maternal inheritance, low intermolecular recombination, high copy number and high substitution rate [ 2 ]. In general, mitochondrial DNA of Bivalvia contains 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNA), two ribosomal RNA genes (rRNA), 12 protein-coding genes (PCGs) and a noncoding control region, i.e., the origin of light-strand replication (OL) region [ 3 , 4 ]. Complete mitochondrial genomes have become popular for phylogenetic reconstruction of animal relationships [ 5 8 ].…”
