The Complete Mitochondrial Genome of Pennella sp. Parasitizing Thunnus albacares

Abstract: In the study, the parasite from the yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) was separated, and morphological observation and molecular identification were carried out. Our results showed that the parasite was similar to Pennella sp. Its cephalothorax was covered by spherical to spherical non-branched nipples of almost the same size, which were very similar in shape and arrangement. A pair of slightly larger, the unbranched antenna was present on the outer margin of the small papillae-covered area. The gene sequence… Show more

“…Yellowfin tuna is a kind of economically important fish, popular among the public, belonging to the mackerel family and tuna genus. The species is found in tropical and subtropical waters, mainly in the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans [ 8 ]. As a result, tuna has become an important source of income for many countries, including Japan, the European Union, and the United States [ 9 ].…”

“…The protein-coding genes (PCGs) of B. similis exhibit the same genes present in other calanoid mitochondrial genes, such as C. hyperbolus [37] and E. affinis [38]. Unlike Penella and Paracyclopina species, B. similis does possess the ATP8 gene [39], indicating a genomic structure similar to other calanoid species. However, the presence of rRNA genes was not observed in the present study.…”
