The complete mitochondrial genome analysis of Eristalis tenax (Diptera, Syrphidae)

Abstract: The complete mitochondrial genome of Eristalis tenax (Linnaeus, 1758) (Diptera, Syrphidae) is reported here. This is the first sequenced mitogenome from the subfamily Milesiinae. The whole mitochondrial genome is 16,091 bp in length and contains 37 canonical genes, which include 22 transfer RNA genes, 13 protein-coding genes and two ribosomal RNA genes, the control region is 1125 bp in length. Most PCGs start with standard ATN codons, while CO1 and ND1 use TTG, CO3 uses TGG as start codons. All PCGs terminate … Show more

“…The genomic DNA was extracted from adult's muscle tissues of the thorax using the DNeasy DNA Extraction kit (TIANGEN) and sequenced under the next generation sequence technology. The mitochondrial genome of T. punctulata contains 22 transfer RNA genes, 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes and non-coding control regions, which were similar with related reports before (Li et al 2017a;Wang et al 2017;Zhou et al 2017;Li et al 2017b). The nucleotide composition of T. punctulata mitochondrial genome was 34.6% of A, 33.9% of T, 17.6% of C, 13.9% of G, 68.5% of A þ T content.…”

“…Of all 38 sequence elements, 4 PCGs, 8 tRNA genes and 2 rRNA genes are located on the light strand, while others are on the heavy strand. The order of all elements distributed on the sequence is consistent with that of E. tenax (Li et al 2017).…”

“…The whole length of the complete mitogenome of H. virgatus was 15,742 bp (GenBank No. : MN148445) containing 37 genes including 22 transfer RNA genes, 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and a non-coding region, the pattern of mitogenome genes in the newly sequenced species was similar to other Syrphidae (Clary and Wolstenholme 1985;Li et al 2017;Pu et al 2017), of which 23 genes were encoded in J-strand, 14 genes were located in N-strand.…”

“…So far, only 11 syrphine species' mitogenomes have been sequenced completely or partially and are available in the GenBank (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/) (Cameron et al 2007;Tang et al 2014;Junqueira et al 2016;Li et al 2017;Pu et al 2017;Sonet et al 2019). Herein, we sequenced the twelfth mitogenome, of H. virgatus, the detailed information about this sequence and a phylogenetic tree based on dataset of all syrphine mitogenomes are given in the following text.…”
